I am married with two stepchildren. The oldest is 18, and his mother lets him get away with everything. We gave him a car when he was 17, he already has a speeding ticket, and pays some of his insurance only if we badger him about it. Outside of that, he has had a major drug problem so my wife and I have been burdened with medical bills from his stints of being in the hospital and being in and out of rehab. I have told his mother that I am fed up with her giving in to him and not letting him be responsible, but she keeps babying him and bailing him out of everything. I don't know what to do anymore. Please help.

Yes I am the stepfather. I have no children of my own which seems to be an issue also. Their real father doesn't pay child support and works jobs that are paid under the table so he doesn't have to pay. The kids still get to see him whenever he makes time for them. Here lately I just feel like I am the guy that helps pay for all the bills and in the end I will be alone when I am older.
