Washing Machine drain hose in the floor?
I just moved into a rental property and what looked like PVC pipe coming up from the drain in the floor was broken off. My landlord removed the U shaped hose from my washing machine and placed it into the drain on the floor. Now my washer will only fill up about 3 inches and then starts to drain. Am I wrong in thinking that the hose to drain the water must be higher than the washer tub? Does he need to replace the PVC pipe so my washer works correctly? Please help!

    Hi Melissa

Tell the landlord to install that hose up above the flood level of the washing machine as you suggested here. As you now know, if you put the hose on the floor like your landlord did the washer tub simply drains itself empty!

He could just lift the hose higher than the machine and then loop back down or he can install the PVC pipe back again... either way works (depending on total distance)!
