My 2 1/2 month old rotti/lab mix was positive and showing early signs of parvo on Friday the 20th of July. I rushed him over the vet to be checked out the was sure we caught it very early and suggested doing subQ fluids and lettong Bo come home with us. He just started with the vomitting on Saturday evening and has vety little blood in his diarrhea. We are doing the fluids,shots,and antibotics from the vet plus pedialyte every so often. He is on day 4 with the virus and has been up and down this whole time. Is there anuthing else we can try for him? Has anyone every had the up and down problem with their case. He HAS BEEN TO THE VET! He goes every morning to have the fluids and shots. We can not do IVs right now because of money or he would be in the vets office with them, plus the vet doesn't think we NEED them right now. He has also been fever free for 48 hours now or even longer. Please if any suggestions let me know. Thank you

Unfortunately Parvo can be days filled with ups and downs.
Other than what you are already doing, I would probably encourage him to drink more Pedialyte.
Is he drinking on his on or are you having to syringe it into him.
Would the vet work with you on the IVs in form of some sort of payment plan?

I have been forcing it in him. But tonight he actually took a few laps oit of our fish pond. I know that is not the best water for him but it is the first time he dranked on his own since Thursday evening :) which gives me a lot of hope but I know we are still not out of the woods. He was wanting so bad to swim in the pond he was pawing at it and everything the most active he has veen this whole time. As far as the payment plan I'm sure she would but we just can't do a huge amount of money right now even if it is in small payments just because of some unexpectedmedical bills for our daughter has come up since this all started with Bo. :( we can only do so much money then we will have to stop . But after tonight I would think and hope he would start improving.

Sadly there's really nothing more we can suggest. Parvo is a disease that will have it's ups and downs, like Lady Sam said. If his fever is down then there's hope, but I can't say that he's out of the woods, no one can. Parvo is deadly, it's all a matter of wait, see and hope.

Do up the pedialyte and stay in contact with the vet.

Thank you both for comments. Just wanted to make sure we were doing all we could and can afford to do. I will def. Up the pedialyte and see how he manages with it. Thanks again

The thing about Parvo that many people don't understand is... it's a virus and there is no cure for a virus.

Everything that you are giving your puppy is to help him through the vomiting, diarrhea and lack of appetite. The antibiotics are helping control the secondary infections and the subq fluids are replacing the electrolytes and fluids lost with diarrhea and vomiting.

Parvoviruse itself has to run its course. Sometimes it get worse before it gets better. Some puppies will improve within 3-4 days, others will take up to two weeks before improvement is seen.

If your puppy appears to continue to go downhill, maybe ICU is a better option for you. He would be connected to fluids that would be feeding his body instead of you worrying about him eating.

If that is finanacially not an option for you, than I would suggest to keep your vet on speed dial and ask him if you should increase or decrease anything. Just because you caught this sickness in early stages, doesn't mean its not going to be a bad case.

I hope he pulls through.
