    Audio delay when recording instruments
Hi. I have an audio delay when recording instruments to my new PC. Can anyone help please?

I have narrowed the problem down to the PC. I have Windows XP.

    Thanks,

    Hi Hummy Carton,

My name is Deepa and I work for the Social Media and Community Team at Dell. First of all, I would like to appreciate you for narrowing down the issue to the PC. I need to check few things. When you say that while recording instruments does that mean you are connecting a different device to your PC. If yes, you must have a particular software to connect that device. I would first like to check if that software is updated or not. I would also like to check if you have tried to record the same instrument to a different PC and if you are getting the same error or not. You can also check it in audio options and recording device options. I will suggest you one more step , you can try this as well:-
Click on start > run > msconfig > start up items > disable all the items > go to services > hide all Microsoft services > disable all the services > apply > restart the system.
After trying this step please try to record once again, if it gives the same problem then it might be an issue with the operating system and we might need to reinstall it. If there is no such problem after doing MSCONFIG, then some of the applications might be causing this issue. We might need to try one by one enabling the services to identify which one is causing the issue.
In order to help you better please let me know the system model.

    For further assistance please reply

Many thanks for your indepth reply. I have found out that the delay is due to my soundcard being on the motherboard and I need a dedicated soundcard.

    Thanks again for your help,
    Andy
