    Ex-boyfriend, ex-gift?
My ex-boyfriend bought me a car as a gift. We broke up and he is not happy about it. He swiped my keys out from under me and has been hiding my car ever since. How do I get my car back?

Is the car registered in your name or his?

Beat me to it! Who holds the title and does your boyfriend hold the lien?

If the title/registration is in your name, call the Police and tell them what you told us. In theory he has stolen it.

I have the title, both of our names are on the title, it's is insured by me. My ex doesn't even have a drivers license and won't be able to get one for a very long time due to his numerous dui's and reckless driving tickets.

I'm not entirely sure on the registration, it was in the car, but I do believe we both signed it, if that's possible..?

Yes, it's possible. If so, you BOTH own the car and the Police will not get involved.

You would have to sue him in Small Claims Court, claim it's a gift and he took it.

You will have a problem with the "gift" if his name is anywhere on the ownership papers - title or registration.

Gifts are given free and clear, without reservation.

Go to the dealer. Get another key. Find the car. Take it. Get the ignition "lock" changed so that he can't take it again.

If he tries to anyway, have him arrested.
