My 7 yr old was well behaved and respectful helped me out all the time. I've been ill for the past 4 years having surgery and noticing his attitude changing. He has a 4 yr old and a 3 yr old baby brothers so I thought he was jealous that he wasn't the center of attention. He's having trouble in school was recently asked to take him home a week before summer breakbecause he was throwing rocks and hitting the teachers. He's been in counseling off and on and we never got anywhere. He's very aggressive to his brothers slams them to the floor, punches ,bits trips them . He throws things bangs his head on the wall and screams and crys like I'm betting him when I'm not even near him. I'm taking to a dr for behaver what else can I do

It could be a discipline problem.
I don't normally condone spankings for aggressive behavior, but have you tried it? When he gets that way, spank his butt, let him know how much it hurts to be hit. And be consistent about it, but not aggressive yourself. If you choose to spank, always spank calmly, and explain why he is getting a spanking.

If that doesn't help, you may have to wait to see what the doctors say.

You've been ill... He is afraid. Children this age don't understand illness so they act out. He's afraid he is going to lose his Mommy.

Spanking is NOT a good idea in this situation. You all need family counseling. I understand that he has been in counseling on and off, but on and off is actually more detrimental to his situation. It's either ON or OFF.

I can relate to this situation as I had a 4 year old when I was going through cancer and chemotherapy.

At 7 he doesn't know how to express his anger or frustration, so he acts out.

Have you tried sitting him down, just the two of you, and asked him why he acts this way?

I do agree J, normally I would never say spank a child for hitting or other aggressive behaviors. But I was thinking maybe try it as a last resort.

I'm wondering what kind of discipline (if any) was used for the years that mom wasn't there. Maybe none at all, or maybe too much physical discipline?

Usually I do agree with spankings, but in the case of an ill parent, I don't. Been there, got the T-Shirt.

Until we know what kind of discipline has been used thus far, it's hard to advise further.

Thanks for the replys my son was diagnosed with adhd and combined type expressive langage disorder ;anxiety disorder traits. He is also below in school grade level as well. He's been recommended for counseling to improve his impulse control and behavior. Will also need extra help in school. My question is if medication is the best way to control his behavior?

He has been diagnosed with adha as well ascombined typeof expressive language disorder;and anxiety disorder traits. He's also below academic wise . He's going to start counseling to improve his impulse control and behavior. He dr wants to wait and see what teacher thinks when school starts about his adhd to see if medicication would be needed. I have a nephew who's on meds for that and he just sits there he doesn't eat when he's on meds. Would it be a good idea to put him on medication if it came down to it? I just got the news and spoke to my family about it they are all opposed to me putting him on them. I told them I want what's best for my son and if that's what the next stepis then I will do it am I wrong

When it comes to medical issues your best source of help, information, support is a Physician. I would not compare him to anyone else.

Why does your family have a say in this or is this just their opinion?

I would rely on the Physician. If you remain concerned, get a second opinion.

A Physician has told you to hold off on medication until he's back in school. That's the person to give you advice, a medical professonal who knows and has examined and tested the child.

I notice that this thread is somewhat different from the other thread - which I think has also disappeared.

Always always always listen to your doctor! He can give you much better advice than we can!
