    Is it wrong or illegal?
    Im a 20y/o male and over the past couple of weeks me and a friend have been talking about what she should do about this guy she was dating who was lying to her and she got to know more of the type of person I am and now wants to date me but she is 16.

    I like this girl and all but I don't want a chance of getting arrested so I told her yea I like you too and want to date you but dating usually envolves sexual relations which I'm not interested in. Which caused her to want me even more cause she is tired of all the guys just wanting to get in her pants.

    So my question is could I get arrested for dating her knowing that the only time we can have sex is on her 18th birthday which is fine by both of us it would give us the time to get to know each other and fall in love without wondering when the next time we have sex is or if sex is any good or any of the other sexual bull that is incorporated with a relationship?

    Check the age of consent in your state. It isn't always 18. In mine it's 16. Regardless, it may be frowned upon if it is legal. At least give it a year if the age of consent is 16. You guys are still kids and neither of you are ready for sex especially her. You're the only one that will go to jail if it's illegal. In either case, you need to ask her parents to date her. Don't just date her for the hell of it. Ask their permission. At least they'll be aware of your relationship together. Even if she's a minor and her parents agree that it's OK to date her, DO NOT have sex until she is of age. They CAN still press charges even if they said it was OK at first.

    If you are not having sex, you can date her as long as her parents agree to allow you to date.

    That's not exactly what I meant first off I live in Oregon age of consent being 16 and of course id ask her parents to date her even though I don't have too id prefer her dad at least to sign off on the relationship I just wanted to know if there is any law's against dating someone underage and there is not you can date who you want you just can't have sex with them which is perfectly fine being as sex can ruin a relationship if you base everything off sex the relationship will end whereas if you don't and base it on the idea you can't live your life without that person it will usually unfold in the manner I am hopeing my does thanks anyway for both of your help but it didn't help me
    :(

    How did you not get answers that helped? You asked if you could be arrested for dating her... you got answers to that. So what else did you need?

    If the age of consent is 16 and you can legally have sex with her, then DATING a 16 year old legally would also make sense. Yes you can technically date whoever you want to. You wouldn't date a 13 year old though because that's immoral. Besides, even just hugging a 13 year old could lead to charges. So with that being said, date whoever is at or over the age of consent.

    Legally you cannot if the parents say no. It's called Parental Interference and it's a crime.

    - As long as we're wandering away from the question...

    Clarification: The Age of Consent in Oregon is 18. http://www.leg.state.or.us/ors/163.html

    Quote:

    163.315 Incapacity to consent; effect of lack of resistance. (1) A person is considered incapable of consenting to a sexual act if the person is:

    (a) Under 18 years of age;

    (b) Mentally defective;

    (c) Mentally incapacitated; or

    (d) Physically helpless.

    (2) A lack of verbal or physical resistance does not, by itself, constitute consent but may be considered by the trier of fact along with all other relevant evidence. [1971 c.743 §105; 1999 c.949 §2; 2001 c.104 §52]
    Dating would only be an issue if you did have sexual contact or if her parents/guardians do not give permission. If she tries to hide your relationship from her parents, take that as a warning sign.

    Also be aware that there may be other laws such as curfews or age requirements that might affect when and where you can go.
