    OTC meds for OCD?
I have a friend who is staying with me, she has ocd, and is having a very hard time. Is there something she can take over the counter, or something she can do to relieve her symptoms.

    What the symptoms?

Isn't she already taking meds if she has been diagnosed?

We can't tell you how to relieve the symptoms if we don't know what the symptoms are. ;)

Do her parents know about this? Hasn't she seen a doctor about these problems? Why isn't she on meds to stop them?

    Does she have peaceful times?

That's irresponsible to diagnose something this major and debilitating but not prescribe anything. Was this her primary care doctor?

She has never been prescribed anything to treat o.c.d. however last week she was prescribed lindane cream which had no effect whatsoever. She has also been prescibed an ointment triamcinolone and was told to take antihistamine for the itching aspect of this

She should be able to call the diagnosing doctor's answering service and ask for a prescription to be filled at an area pharmacy.

Lindane cream is for scabies and lice. Triamcinolone is for allergies and skin conditions. Are you sure this is OCD?

Her dianosis doctor for ocd she saw was years ago, ecently her scratching is obsevissive but they gave her the cream, to calm her down and no it not scabies or lice, they told her they thought it was all in her head, anyway back to my original question is there something we can buy over the counter, to help her.

She needs to get a current diagnosis of OCD and the proper meds for that, as appropriate. Cognitive-behaviorial counseling would probably be also strongly suggested or even required.

The problem is that her need to scratch and cut is coming from inside her brain and probably not because her skin feels feels itchy. A topical OTC cream or medication won't work any better than what she has been given.

Does she tend to pick at her skin and leave small injuries? Does she pull out her hair in spots?
