How can I get my permanent black hair to a dyed red at home?
I have been dyeing my hair black with permanent Live XL for about a year now, and I'm not sure of the best way to get it out of my hair. My first idea was to strip it and then use 20 or 30 vol bleach to get it as light as possible before applying the red dye (I mean artificial red as opposed to ginger or auburn). I am looking for advice on whether this would work, whether this can be achieved in a day, and what products for the stripping and bleaching would work best. My hair is long (past shoulder length), naturally mousy brown and in good condition at the moment, how can I avoid this process from ruining my hair? Also, which hair dyes are best for bright red hair, and any tips and products for keeping the red vibrant? I am aware that it would be much better to visit a salon but I don't have the money to do so, or the time. Any advice would be helpful, although I would appreciate hearing from someone who has experience in hairdressing or has undergone this change themselves. Please bear in mind that I am from the U.K and so will be using English products, and that I am currently a student so I don't have a large amount of money to work with.Thank you. (:
