    Help: Vaginal discharge and itchiness
Hello, I was seen about three weeks ago for vaginal discharge and itchiness. Cultures were taken for STDs and bloodwork for hepatitis and HIV. The doctor suspected BV and gave me metro-gel and doxycycline while I awaited the lab results. I finished the metro-gel (five nights), but couldn't take the doxycycline because it caused vomiting. The symptoms still persisted, so I called to get the results of the lab work and told the doctor I couldn't take the doxycycline. All cultures and blood work came back negative, except the found a small trace of E.coli, which she said if I had taken the doxycycline it would have cleared up, so instead she put me on Bactrim (SMZ/TMP DS 800-160) twice a day, for 10 days. I just finished it, but the symptoms are worse. It's a clear watery discharge that soaks through my pants, and itchiness which is more severe while sleeping, it even wakes me up, I use monistat cream to relieve itching, but this is very bothersome. I can't figure out what it is, please help. Also there is really no odor, just normal odor.

If they found traces of e. coli in your urine sample, very difficult to ignore seeing as the female perineum is so narrow and fecal matter can enter our urethra quite easily if we are not wiping up after a bowel movement. Never wipe forward or this will happen on a regular basis causing a urinary tract infection that can only be terminated with a good series of antibiotics. I guess your doctor hasn't hit it on the head yet and found you one strong enough.

My doctor's choice is Norfloxacin, 400g, 2 twice a day, for a week, and this came after trial and error.

Thank you for your reply. I hope that its just the E.Coli still and that a different antibiotic will help. I will call and see what she says this time. I just hope that's what it is. Thank you!
