I accidentally badmouthed one of my classmates who is not in the popular clique to some of the people sitting around me in class. As they're popular, they invited me to join them since they too did not like her and often laughed at her.
But I accidentally did it and I feel really bad to have done so as what I said became a rumour which expanded out to be something I never expected. If I joined them, I might lose my standing with the classmates I was a bit closer with, as the one I badmouthed is within this category.
As I transferred to this class, I originally did not know anyone hence this group of classmates whom I was a bit closer with were the ones whom I first talked to and I'm always afraid of offending them too. It would be against my conscience to join the popular clique but I fear that if I do so, and if this spreads to the teacher's ears, I may be expelled. Please help!!

Dear friend! Always do things with sincerity and honesty. Go straight to the person you have told something and say sorry and tell that you never intended to do so.

Always think ten times before you speak out because once the words are out of your mouth, you can not take them back. Practice it slowly, daily till you get the control of your habit. Always keep somebody to remind you and keep a check on you on this matter.

First, let us get this straight. An accident is something that happens unintentionally. What you said was no accident. It may have been thoughtless and spur of the moment but it was no accident. You consciously decided to say something and did. You may have acted without considering the consequences, but that doesn't make it an accident.

So now you have to deal with the consequences of your actions. Without knowing what you said or what your school's rules are, I wonder that you think you might be expelled over it. Even in today's anti-bullying climate, it would take a lot more than one careless remark to justify being expelled.

I would go to a guidance counselor at your school. Explain what you said and that you have been filled with remorse since you did. Ask what they think you should do. Writing a letter to of apology to the classmate, sounds like a good idea.

Thanks a lot! I went to her to apologise sincerely and gave her a letter although those in the popular clique said if I did that I couldn't join them. At least my conscience feels better. :) thanks again!
