I think he played a father who had his children taken from him after his wife died? He worked very hard until they all came back together at the end I think he had five kids... Does anyone know this movie? I think it was late 80's but the movie is maybe made in 40 's era

Besides which the Star wars story line bears NO resemblance the story line the OP asked about.

The movie is called "After The Promise" it also stars Diana Scarwid (Mommy Dearest) this is one of my all time Favorite Mark Harmon movies :-))
