My generator has a L14-30 out (with hot, hot, neutral, and ground) and I would like to connect it to the well pump.
In the basement a 3 wire (black, white, and ground) go into a pressure control unit. Ground stays there and black and white go from there into a switch control box. Black goes to L1 and white to L2. This box has also R. Y, and B which seem to go to the well pump.
What is now the best way to connect hot, hot, neutral, and ground to L1, L2, R, Y, and B? Thanks.

Use only the L1 and L2 for the hots, and the ground from the genset to the pump controller. This will provide 240 volts plus ground.

Thanks, just called Homelite, it seems there is no max Amperage per generator plug, what means the L14-30 provides the full running 5000W (20.8A with 240V).
To reduce the number of wires, is it possible to connect the L14-30 on genset with a 4 wire cable into the basement and split it there into
1. L1, L2, and ground for the 240V well pump and
2. L1 or L2 and neutral for 120V devices
Or is more safe to have two separate wires from genset (120V, 240V)? Thanks.
