I've done it twice already and everything seems just perfectly fine.. I follow videos of YouTube... to step by step.. Someone who thinks they know every thing told me the other day that I'm doing wrong because I'm putting plumbers puddy underneath the faucet part that connects to the faucet .which on YouTube it's what they told me to do.. So, am I doing correctly or not

Sorry Brandie, but I don't know what you are asking??

The only time I will use plumber's putty on a faucet is if the countertop isn't marble/granite/stone and I'll only use it on the escutcheon plate(s) that cover the hole(s) in the countertop... creates a water tight seal. For countertops with marble/granite/stone I'll use a silicone caulk or a special stone putty.

Otherwise, there should be no need for putty on a faucet installation.

No my countertop is not morble. Id say it'd probably steel or metal and yeah I was talking about right under the faucet under plastic piece that connects to the counter

Can you give us the link to the YouTube you were watching? That plastic thing is your seal and they frequently allow water to wick under them, then it drys and leaves a crusty little mess around the faucet base. That's why I make a straw sized length of caulk and loop it all along the inside edge of the "plastic thing"

so are you saying I need to put caulk in the inside

When we install kitchen faucets on, stainless steel, porclain or cast iron sinks we put a thin bead bead of putty under the faucet. This is NOT done on a marble counter top. Good luck, Tom

Brandie, take some plumbers putty and roll it out to make a rope about the size of a pencil. The rope should be long enough to connect the ends making a loop. The loop should be slightly smaller than the outer edge of the plastic gasket, the rope goes between the gasket and the sinks surface. When you tighten down the faucet some putty will squeeze out and can be trimmed off when you are done tightening.

Thanks that was good advice.. C I've Been kind of doing it like that. Pretty much not completely though. And a guy that thinks he knows every thing told me I was wrong for using plumbers putty. But I saw it on YouTube so I got really confused. I like this website though I'm glad I found it. It's a lot of help ! Well some times.
