I don't have a license, borrowed my friends car, it was parked in a lot, the car was hit and whoever did it took off. My license is suspended because of another incident, they don't know about it, what should I do?

Did your friend give you permission to use it?

Does he have insurance?

Does he know his car was damaged by an unknown driver?

And does he have collision coverage? If not, you are probably liable for the entire cost of repair.

You should immediately advise your friend of the situation if you haven't done so already. Offer to pay the deductible.

Your friend should report it to his insurance. Pray that he has collision.

They gave me permission to use the car.

So he reports it to the insurance company, and he gets paid minus the deductable, You write him a check for anything the insurance does not pay.

Then your license has nothing to do with anything, but don't push your luck and drive without one again, especially in a friend's car.

Yes. The adjuster might ask how the car got to the lot.

If the car was parked and was hit by an unidentified driver, your license situation is not part of the "facts of the accident" and will have no bearing on settling this claim.

Even if the insurance company wants to know who was "in possession", there is no reason for them to report you to the authorities.

If you read the teeny-tiny print insurance policies are beginning to disallow for lying on the application, being intoxicated and ILLEGAL DRIVERS. The OP was an illegal driver.

I "assume" a Police Report was filed? OR did OP just go home, take the car back, do whatever he did? I'm guessing he didn't because I'd be surprised if the Police checked his license, saw the circumstances, allowed him to drive off.

Except that, as I recall, OP, although an illegal driver, was not driving (at the moment the accident occurred).

No, but had he called the Police it would have been apparent that he was, minimally, in control of the car when it got hit.

I ask who was driving and if they had permission - and a license.

I am fairly certain that my insurer would want all the info Judy mentioned.
I doubt that they would attempt to verify what I told them, but I would have to be a bit liberal with the truth because I think that their standard questions would ferret that discrepancy out. I could be wrong-- have never had that particular experience-but the few experiences I had I have found them to be very thorough. If you don't tell your friend, you are putting him in jeopardy. What he tells his insur. Company is out of your control.
