You are being scammed. Cut off all contact. Never send anyone money that you met solely online.

First this would not have even been their real name ( most likely) Let me see for education, a passport from Ghana and visa to come to the US is about 330 dollars now. There is no requirement for a physcial since most come over on tourest visa to start with. If they said they were coming over on other visa you would have personally had to be in touch with US State Dept to prove the relationship.

There is no travel allowance required to have in the bank.

So any money over 400 bucks and air fair shows it is a obvious scam. These people will spend months sitting up the right person. This is very common, even our THEIR government has a warning about it on their immigration pages.
