I changed my 4 wire plug to a 3 wire plug... it powered on for a minute.. made a noise and then powered off. And I can not get it to come back on or do anything... did I totally fry it... do you think it can be repaired

That depends on what you did wrong. I'd call a service tech at this point. Make sure they know what happened.

It sounds like you mixed up the hot and the neutral, so instead of the motor getting 120 volts it got 220 volts. The silver screws get the neutral and the brass get the hot wires, green gets ground. You probably fried it.
