I have shingles ,well I took the acyclovir as directed, still have the rash almost two weeks now, but am due for back surgery in 20 days. Will this delay an already overdue surgery?

That will really be up to the surgeon.

I know that when my dad had shingles, once the sores turned into scabs, the doctor said he was okay.

But, I'm not a doctor. You'll really have to consult your doctor about this one. He/she knows your history, and can do tests we can't hope to do on the internet.

Thanks alty, I have the rash, but no blisters. Maybe the
Medicine stopped that part?

The rash usually blisters. At least it did for my dad. I was pregnant at the time, ready to deliver, and I couldn't see my dad for the last two weeks of my pregnancy because he had shingles.

The day my son was born my dad went to his doctor to ask if he could see the baby without putting him at risk. At that time he had scabbed, and was told he could see my son.

That's really been my only exposure to shingles. I do know it's very painful. I don't think my dad received any medication to cure the shingles, only to manage the pain.

But that was 14 years ago.

I really would discuss this with your doctor. If there is a risk, even if it means postponing your back surgery, your health is more important. Shingles is nothing to mess with.

I had shingles maybe ten years ago -- first the rash and then blisters broke out after about a week. The doctor gave me five days of a med that kept them from getting any worse, and they disappeared in another week. I don't remember pain, but they did itch.

Check with your doctor. I don't know what your back surgery will involve and where your shingles outbreak is, but the doctor will tell you whether you should wait with the surgery.
