Washing Machine Backs Up in Drain Pipe
    Hello,

I live in a home that was built in the 1960's and have a newer model high efficiency washing machine. My drain pipe is not 2 inches like it would be in a newer home, it is only 1 3/4 inches. For the first 1-2 years of having the washing machine I had no problems with draining/overflowing the drain pipe. However, since then, the washing machine regularly (once a month or so) overflows through the drain pipe. Each time this happens I use a snake and get it in about 20 feet or so and this seems to clear the drain enough to allow it to work properly for about a month or so. The washing machine drain does not have a vent on the roof, so I assume the drain at my kitchen sink is used for this drain. I got on the roof and look down the vent and did not see any obvious problems. So, my question is this... why does the washing machine continually back up now when it drained fine for such a long time initially? Could the vent above the kitchen sink be the issue? Also, I do not have any slow or clogged drains anywhere else in the house. Any help/recommendations would be very much appreciated as I am extremely tired of snaking this drain out. Thanks!
