    Menopause & PCOS
    Hi,
    I don't know if anyone can help with this but here goes;

    I have PCOS (diagnosed by my Dr). I have a complete lack of periods and have had for some 20yrs now.

    How will this condition affect my menopause? I've looked at various websites (verity etc) and no-one seems to address it?

    Any help/ansa's/websites would be much appreciated!

    The cysts that result from PCOS are eggs that were unable to leave the ovaries during ovulation. Once your hormones stop giving instructions for ovulation (or attempted ovulation) then the cysts should stop forming.

    Menopause is when the hormones stop instructing the body to ovulate. So at that point your eggs will stop growing and the cysts should stop.

    In a way menopause will help your condition. PCOS doesn't really affect menopause. It's menopause that affects PCOS.

    Hey Shorty,
    The best thing to do is talk to your GP or health worker. PCOS has to be diagnosed.
    There are many things that can cause you to stop having periods. The stress of trying for baby for a start!
    Don't worry, be brave, go and see someone. You may only need some advice or you may need intervention of some sort.
    There are planty of things can be done to aid fertility these days.

    Good luck!

    A big thing I've discovered about PCOS is sugar intake. This doesn't just mean sugary foods like candy, but also simple and complex carbs. You want to eat foods that don't get absorbed into your body so fast as to cause an insulin spike. I know it seems weird to think about sugar having to do with your periods, but trust me it does! I hadn't had a period for over a year. I changed the way I was eating and eliminated a lot of the sugary simple carbs and lost 15 lbs, and got 2 periods! I wish I had known about this when trying to conceive, it would have made things much easier. If you want to find the book, it's called 'The Sugar Solution' and has a chapter dedicated to PCOS. But even if you don't buy the book, watch your sugar intake and stick to foods low on the glycemic index.

    Best of luck to you!
