Ill be driving and when I give it too much gas or I go up a hill the check engine light will come on and the car lags until I put it in nuetral and restart the car, then the light goes off and I'm good to go till it does it again. I replaced the fuel filter so far

Check for codes. It could be that you need to replace the Ignition Control Module (ICM) and coil inside the distributor.
