If the timing chain breaks or jumps, will it bend the intake or exhaust?

I am not an expert in this field but just looking into this possibility with my own vehicle, I learned that some engines are designed to prevent damage if a belt or chain breaks and some aren't. You need to find out if your vehicle is an interference engine or not.
