    Outside 20 hrs but 1099
    Hi,

I am an international student and I worked for univ for 20hrs a week 9 which I was allowed) and also did some research work for a prof in the same univ for which I was paid . He has sent me a 1099-MISC form. THe thing is I am filing for returns on the W-2 I got from the univ library ( where I worked for 20 hrs a week)... should I file the 1099 too . Would that mean disaster?

You have to file it, it shows income just like your W2 does, and the IRS already has a copy of the 1099 so you get into the big trouble for not filing it. Remember the 1099 or the W2 does not say how many hours you work, merely how much you get paid, If you are working over the allowed hours, stop, that is another issue not related to filingyour taxes.

Tax law and INS rules are two different non related things

They normally will NOT get whiff of it.

The IRS does not share tax data unless it is specifically requested, and not then sometimes.

OK so now if I have ot fill Schedule C for the 1099... I mena what should I put as my business address?. and its asking a whole lot of questions of profit and loss and goods sold.. I didn't sell any goods.. and I don't know how to list the expenses.. can I claim meals as expenses... and morever I earned only 1250 from the prof apart from 9600 from the univ job... can I claim deductions and still owe zero tax

You CANNOT claim meals unless the meals were directly related to your "business".

Leave the Cost of Goods Sold section blank.

You probably should ge a tax pro to help you!
