If a dog usually goes twice per day, then suddenly goes on a morning walk, then nothing again up to 10am next day. Is this normal?

Just like humans bowel movments in dogs can be unpredictable or go through a change. It could have been something he ate, or didn't eat. Is he pooping normally now? Do the stools look normal? Firm, brown, not runny or any blood in them?
