    It's a whirlpool we touched the side and it just didn't seem cold enough

    It shouldn't be cold on the outside... just the inside. You never said WHERE you touched it.

    And you really need a thermometer INSIDE it to know if it is are insn't getting cold enough. 10 degree differnce is hard to judge by feel and make all the difference between working and not working very well. And definitely between a safe food temp and an unsafe one.

    This is one of those proverbial times wher close only counts in horse shoes and hand grenades.

    The outside has the hot gas line routed around it and around freezer door, so it's warm.
