    Depends on the backer used with siding. Size could be from 1 1/2'' to 2 1/2'' roofing nail. Leave nails about an 1/8'' loose so siding can expand without buckling.

    You should use minimum 2" with a tyvek product and 2 1/2" with a 1/4" backer board.
