    Outlet box mounting
    Can the back of the outlet box be 1/4" from my exterior wall and if not can I install some type of nail plate

    According to my husband who has been a residential electrician in VA for 6 years and commercial for 2 years .You can install it that way and they do not make a nail plate for that particular situation.Hope that helps

    The reason you use a nail plate is to protect the wire as it passes through a stud or plate. Yes, I have seen nails through boxes but more commonly through wires.
