    Fair? Or Unfair?
So I rent a room (basement) from a friend of mine. Actually her mom. For 50 dollars a week, for the first 6 months then raised the rent on me $25. It's been about a year since I've been renting from her. There was no legal papers to sign, nothing. All I had to do was pay one weeks rent plus another. A couple days ago, she's started screaming in rage ar

    Fair? Or Unfair?
I rent a room from a friends mom. The basement. And I've been doing it for a year. When I first started renting, it started at $50 a week. $50 deposit and first weeks rent. At first everything was okay. But then as time went on, she started getting angry for no reason and take it out on me. When I don't even leave the basement unless I need to take a shower. That's the only time I ever go up there. Then she started threatening to kick me out. It has ha

    Hello Kyle:

I don't know if it's fair or not, but she certainly can END your tenancy.

In About 1975, my first studio Apt in downtown Las Vegas was $50 a week. Nothing special, I could cook and sleep?
    Is the room available?
I think it's a good deal. Includes Electric and water, cable?

It has happened 4 times so far and she has recently done it again. Her anger gets worse every time. I don't get a house key when she leaves for the weekends. So I don't get to shower when she leaves. The only reason I moved in with them/her was because my mother left to go to Georgia with my brother and her boyfriend. So my friend offered me her basement. I just need to know what I can do about it. I don't use the kitchen, or anything. I spend all my money on fast-food because I have nowhere to store food. Thank you for your answers.

I'd love to move out as soon as I could, but minimum wage makes payment for an apartment nearly impossible.

It does. But she leaves out of town on the weekends. The basement is downstairs and she locks the upstairs when she leaves. So I can't shower on the weekends or for how ever long she's gone. She won't let me use her kitchen and have no kind of cooking mechanisms down where I reside. Nor a key to the house.

Sorry to hear, what a pain, don't know what to say, and if a better deal comes along, take it. Good Luck

Fairness doesn't enter into it. Your only choice seems to be to move or endure. You might consider looking for a local YMCA and shower there.

So this is basically a illegal apartment, since it does not have a kitchen or shower, That does not really help you since reporting her just gets you evicted.
You are paying 300 dollars a month, basically so you are getting about ( in fact more) than you are paying for. Something like this often goes for 200 a week with a kitchenette..
