    H1b tax filing
I entered in US on F1 Status Aug 2002, changed to H1b on Nov 2005
What form should I use for filing Tax, Am I considered resident for Tax purposes?
Can I take any standard or personal deductions?

File as a resident alien, fling Form 1040, 1040A or (most likely) 1040EZ.

You can claim a $3,300 personal exemption and a $5,150 standard deduction.

I am in a similar situation.
It is my understanding that we do not need to file 8843 anymore. Just one form 1040EZ (1040/1040A).

But as I was filing the 1040EZ, I noticed that now there is a small provision for federal excise tax, on line 9. Do we need the form 8913 and is there a maximum or a minimum on that amount and do we need to attach any receipts as a proof?

If the person is single and has no mortgage, is there any other deduction that can help him reduce the tax?

I really appreciate ATE spending so much time on the forum that benefits so many people.

    Thanks
    Modi.

    Modi:

The federal excise issue does not affact you. Ignore it!
