    Water heater vacation
I have two 50 ga water tanks that are on a hot water cycling system through the house. First one is set at lo-med temp and the second one is set on vacation. The pilot light on the first tank keeps going out and might be caused by the high winds here. So I was thinking to shut out the first tank and use the second one. Is there a problem doing this? If not, how do I switch to the second tank? It's getting to be a real hassel climbing in the attic to relight the first pilot.
    Thank you, Kath

    Hi KAlong

If the tanks are isolated by shutoff valves in a way that you can shut one heater down then you can shut the first tank down and use the second tank no problem.

However, with that being said, the first heater probably only has a defective THERMOCOUPLE... usually a cheap/easy swap out for someone with basic repair skills. Check out the video for more info.:

    Thermocouple is about $6.00... ;)
