Lived in NJ for 6 months and worked in NYC and then in PA
    Hi,

I lived in NJ (no income in NJ) from Jan 2006 to June 2006 and worked in NYC during this period. I then moved to PA for the rest of the year.

The year prior (in 2005) I lived in NJ and worked in NYC the entire year and I did not have to pay anything to NJ. But this year in 2006 when I do my tax calculations I need to pay around $500 to NJ. My employer gave me W-2's for Federal, NY and PA only. No W-2 for NJ. I don't understand why do I need to pay $500 to NJ.

Some tax consultant told me that in 2005 I was a full year resident of NJ and hence paid $0 but this year I was a part time resident of NJ and have to pay some amount. Is this true?

Thanks for the help in advance.

    Cheers!

The part-year resident status is the reason for the higher tax.
