    Signing off parental rights Washington
My Ex is in a new relationship and owes $3000 in back childsupport. He just informed me that he wants to sign off all parental rights to our daughter in order to wipe away the childsupport arrears and have no further childsupport obligation. Is it possible for him to escape this obligation? Easy way out...

He's living a pipe dream. It ain't going to happen. There is this myth that a parent can just sign over their rights, but its only a myth. Only a court can terminate parental rights and courts will not do so just to let a parent out of paying support.

There is a sticky note at the top of this forum (click the Family Law link) that goes into greater detail about this.
