Shift Stuck!

I have a 96 Toyota Camry and at this time the shift is stuck in Park. The car will turn over, but can't get the gear out of park. Any suggestions:(

Did you remember that you have to place your foot on the brake peddle first?

Had this problem with my tacoma... need to check your fuse panel inside car and under the hood... you might have a blown fuse... this is was happened to me

I think you have a bad stop fuse under the dash behind the coin pocket. It's either that or the brake lights aren't working meaning a bad brake pedal switch.
Last guess is the shift lock solenoid under the shifter. :eek:

Do you know where fuse for P/W is located ? Manual says it's somewhere in the instrument panel. I found bunch of them behind a small compartment on the left of the wheel, but P/W is not there. It's a bigger one - 30 or 40 Amps. Please, help. :confused:

Yes, same area but I think the air duct hides it. It's a pink 30A PWR fuse. It's square not thin. Has a clear lens over it.

Thanks a lot!! I found it. Now the question - how to get to it ? Do you have any advice.

Pull out the coin pocket, 1 screw right there. Pull out the plastic piece that screw holds in and there will be another screw that holds up to the metal panel. The rest is pulling off plastic covers that hide 10mm bolts that hold up the lower dash panel. 8 minutes tops, you'll have it down and be able to get to that fuse.
Pull the fuse. Use your ohm meter and check for no continuity across the fuse. If you have really good eyes, you can see if if the fuse is separated inside. I have to use a magnifing glass. :(
Be sure to lube all your window run weather strips with silicone spray. They're dragging and causing high load on the power window circuit.

Thanks a lot for the instructions!! I finally got it replaced. I can't believe Toyota put them so deep away. I don't understand why some of the fuses are in the box and easily accessible and some are hidden that deep. It actually took me half an hour to replace it, plus it required special wrench, not just a phillips screwdriver.

... and everything is working again?

Ps. I got around 75 grand into them 'special' wrenches. :D

Yep, it worked ! Thanks again for your help. Electrician at Toyota's told me it was a dome fuse in the engine compartment that controls P/W & P/L and needs to be replaced. It's very knowledgeable people work on our cars, isn't it ?
