    Is the car even worth it?
    Im asking another question, I didn't receive a clear answer to my question. Is it worth buying a 1995 Ford Explorer with 110k miles, if the transmission is going out. I am willing to put money into a new transmission. I don't know too much about cars, but tired :confused: of looking with not much $$ to spend.

    I think someone is pulling your chain about the mileage. I can't picture an 8 year old vehicle with 110 miles, maybe more like 100,110 miles. I think you are dealing with a seller who is not high on honesty. Walk away unless the vehicle is a good price at 100,110 miles. My experience is that an Explorer with over 100,000 miles is nearing the end.

    IM sorry... the car has 110k miles, not just 110.

    My fault, missed the K. With 110,00 miles on it you should consider it to be a high mileage car that will require singificant replacement parts in the near future. Kelly Blue Book indicates the car may sell for about $4500 from a dealer with very limited warranty. Drop another 25% if you are buying from a private party. My son-in-law bought one from Carmax and has put over $2000 into it after their limited warranty ran out. You are on thin ice unless you are skilled at doing some of your own repairs.     These are junk at this milage. It will nickel and dime you to death even after the new trans is put in. Keep what little $$ you have in your pockets, and keep looking. Just In my opinion
    Now a 96 4Runner with that milage is just breaking in. Hint Hint.

    One word, "PASS."
    If you are willing to put money into a new transmission, why not take that money and the money that you would spend on the Ford and get a better automobile without the problems?

    the toyota will cost more to buy, and fix, but its true... its just getting started.

    I have a '89 nissan pathfinder with 199K... isn't the prettiest thing, but it still goes just fine. Great backup car, winter beater 4x4. Original engine.

    also have a '93 pathfinder, 150K. Does just fine.

    and a '96 toy 4runner with 130K. Its awesome and no end in sight.

    so I agree with all the above. I just bought a 2003 toy avalon with 130K on it for 8 grand. That thing should run me another 100K no problem and still I could sell it and almost be ahead.

    I hate to push only foreign, but I trust high mileage nissan and toyota.

    my old cherokee bought at 130K made it to 235K, but I think that was dumb luck.

    I agree with kitch428. I have had 6 Toyotas and they are like the Energizer bunny, keep going an going. I take them up to about 140,000 and give them to my kids who run them another 100,000. Yes there will be some expensive repairs like struts and caliper but they are worth it.
