    Vnetbios error when starting PC
When I start my computer I get the following:

"A device file that is specified in the SYSTEM.INI file is damaged.

You may need to run the Windows Setup program again.

If the file is included in another software package, you may need to reinstall the software that uses the file.

    C:\WINDOWS\system\vnetbios.vxd

    Press a key to continue"

Of course, I had to press any key to continue on into Windows. Windows 98SE is installed on this PC. I also had to reset the system files not too long ago. Please help. Thanks!

Did you recently install new hardware, or modify the existing hardware?
If so: reinstall the chipset drivers from the CD that came with the motherboard, and/or reinstall the drivers of the new/modified hardware.

Did you recently uninstall a program?
If so: type "sysedit" in the RUN box (start menu), open system.ini, search for vnetbios.vxd and when you find it, delete the entire line. Save and exit. Makes me think of it, if you restored old system files after you (un)installed a program or hardware, this might be the culprit.

Did you change anything to your BIOS settings, or did you replace the battery?
If so, ensure that the 'plug and play aware OS' item is set to 'no'. On a second thought, set it to 'no' anyway.

VXD errors can have many causes, these are just 3 of them. Could you specify in utmost details when and how it all began?
