    Hi.
To lose weight you need to burn more calories than you take in. It does go deeper than that though. No one can out-exercise a bad diet.
To lose weight, start by cutting out all fast food, sodas, ice cream, candy, and processed foods. Stick to eating natural, healthy things like poultry, lean meats, fish, veggies, nuts, eggs, cheese, and fruit. Try not to eat a lot of things such as bread or granola. Drink tons of water! Also try green tea and black coffee if you want to mix up your drinks. Also try to eat 5-6 smaller meals a day instead of 3 larger meals. It will keep your metabolism working all day.
Exercise at least 30 minutes a day. Do cardio and weight training. Muscle speeds up your metabolism and it helps to tone your body.
Find a good BMR calculator and figure out how many calories your body burns a day. You BMR is your resting metabolic rate, meaning you burn this many calories if you just sat in bed all day. Add the calories you burn while exercising to your BMR and make sure you calorie intake is 500 calories below that sum. You will lose about a pound a week. Try to vary the types of workouts you do, including the intensity every do often so your body doesn't reach a plateau. It's hard but it's worth it to be healthy. Good luck!
