Bathtub won't drain or slow drain
My name is Alison and my husband is Tom. We are stumped on this problem. Please help...

My bathtub has had a slow drain for several months and suddenly would not drain at all. After using a store bought drain cleaner, a plumbing snake, and plunging lots of hair out of the pipes we developed a leak in the drain/overflow combination. We have now replaced that, as well as the p trap, and some of the pipe beyond that, but the tub still won't drain. When we pour water into the overflow it goes down, but the tub won't drain. It makes NO sense to me. I am extremely confused! When boiling water is poured directly on the drain it does go down, but when the tub fills slightly it takes such a long time for it to drain. I just don't know what else to try at this point.Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

    Hello Alison,
It appears your tub drainage problem is with tub overflow. It needs to be either adjusted, reinstalled or replaced with new overflow assembly. There is a piston-line device inside the drain. If not adjusted to the right height it inhibits water drainage.

Hi Allison and Welcome to The Plumbing Page. At AskMeHelpDesk.com.
Let's do a little checking. Remove the drain assembly and block off the drain. Fill the tub about a quarter full and the ,let it drain. Let me know how the flow is and I'll come back with a solution. Tom
