After emergency intubation for 2 weeks, my husband has an echo from his own voice in his right ear. It seems to dissipate when he lies down, but is increasingly interferring with his physical therapy, coordination rehab, etc. He is not well enough physically yet to leave rehab and see an outpatient ENT or other specialist. Any ideas how to relieve the echo?

Autophony is a rare condition with several possible causes. First one must determine the cause. Could be as simple as an external occlusion to an inner-ear disorder.

I have no experience with the condition and an ENT is your best, probably only, resource. Wish I could be of more help. Here are a couple of brief resources that address autophony:

    Occlusion

    Eustacian
