I removed an old fan and noticed only a white wire protruding from ceiling and 3 black wires taped together. I go to install a newr fan and the transmitter requires black to black connection for it to work. How do I connect the black wire from the transmitter to get power?

Look again. Unless you have a situation where someone has done something really weird, if you have three black wires you should have three white wires.
