My 4 year old son stepped on a rusty nail this afternoon. It did puncture his skin and it did bleed. Now 10 hours later he can't go to sleep, he is just crying that it hurts. He won't put pressure on it or let anyone touch it! Should I take him to the doctor ASAP or wait it out?

Of course you need to get him to a doctor. Who knows what he could catch from that nail... from a simple infection up to Tetanus.

You should have taken him to the ER as soon as it happened. I hope you are there now.

I called his doctor as soon as it happened. She told me since he had a DTP shot on 11/30/10 that he would be fine. I guess I should have just followed my instinct and just taken him in.
