Craftsman mower dies after 15 minutes
I have a 2007 craftsman riding mower with a 20 hp briggs. Recently the engine dies after 15 min, or so. I can visually see the fuel filter empty out and it dies. After a few minutes I can see the filter slowly fill again and the engine fires right up. And then dies when empty again. I have replaced the fuel line and filter. But the same result. Also I have removed the gas cap and that also does not seem to help.

Another thing to check is the fuel tank for debris or sediment interfering with the fuel pickup.

Will check that. Also before I changed the fuel line I placed a new line on with no filter and it seemed to run well. The filter that is currently on there now is only a couple of weeks old. Is it possible to have a bad filter? And should I change it to a briggs filter? The filter on know is a after market dura last. I have recently herd that the after market filters create a vacume as though they were made for a system with a fuel pump. I put a new filter every year and I have always bought this same filter. Just a fluke or should I change to a briggs filter?

Well anything's possible but I think unlikely. "Bad" filters fail to filter which isn't the same as a blocked filter or a vacuum issue.

Use what originally came on the machine unless the flow characteristics of another filter confirm it to be a suitable replacement.
