I am down to removing the cartridge and am not sure how to do so, this is a single handle shower
Is there a way of removing this cartridge without a special tool... If I need a special tool what is it and where do I locate one?

What is name and model of faucet?

I'm not sure Chuck, I am just moving into this place and the tub faucet had a continual drip to it, and of course my landlord lives 4 hours away, and has no plans of coming back for another 3 weeks.
He told me it was a Moen, and it is a single handle, I have the handle and a few plastic parts taken out, but the cartridge is inside the pipe and I don't want to break anything.
Didn't know if there is a tool to use, or will plyers do.

If you have removed the handle and the plastic parts the next thingyou need to remove the retainer clip and use a cartridge puller see the images, Thanks.
