My sister is 43 years old. I'm 34. She shows up on my doorstep saying she has been kicked out of the shelter for breaking curfew and has no where to stay. Now she is living with me I only have a one bedroom apt so she sleeps on the couch and I have a 3 year old daughter. She has never hel down a steady job. The last time she has had a job was maybe 10 years ago. So on top of her living with me rent free and my having to feed her she has the nerve to tell me to give her an allowance of $20 a week so she can get back n forth from the city. The only time she leaves the house is to go to church 3x a week. He said God told her he is going to deliver her from her situation and she is waiting on him to deliver her. Now she has only been with me 3 weeks but I'm frustrated. I'm used to my privacy and I'm not taking care of a grown person who is doing nothing for themselves but is waiting on God to do it all. Should I give her a month and tell her she needs to find a place to stay or are there any other options? I don't want to be an enabler...

I would tell her to to find a job within the next month, or you need to kick her out. Because its not healthy or a good role model for your child. You have more important things to spend your money on, and she should and can live on her own with a bit of a push and determination.

I was in a similar situation with my younger sibling. He was using drugs and I knew it but it was the middle of winter and I felt really bad. I gave him a deadline to be out and stuck to it. There's a reason they call it tough love. You will feel terrible but unless she is disabled or unemployable in any way there's no reason she can't do like the rest of us and work... or move to a warm state and fen for herself as bad as that sounds. All you can do is offer your advise. Good luck.

I was in a similar situation recently. I was trying to help a homeless man who refused to work and was waiting for God to give him a ministry of his own. I had compassion on him and found myself in a very tough situation. It almost derailed my walk with God. The Word of God clearly states that God wants us to work and be productive, not being dependent on others (1 Thessalonians 4:11-12). But some, not only do not work, but burden others. On top of that they have plenty of time, so they get busy causing trouble for others, who want to work and want to live a correct life (2 Thessalonians 3:11). The word of God commands us to keep away from those who are idle and disruptive (2 Thessalonians 3:6) and that he who is not willing to work should not eat (2 Thessalonians 3:10). However, the same God who said those things, is the same one who has compassion for the poor and commands us to take care of them. Therefore If you are a believer, I would recommend you talking to your Pastor and get some advice on your particular situation. Maybe your sister has a condition that needs to be addressed before she can begin to live a stable life and responsible life.
