New sewer to lot in a village, no sewer riser
    Hi there,

I bought a lot in a small rural village. The sewer main is about 15' down and is about 3' in diameter. I dug up about a 5'x5' area with a friend. We were unable to locate an 8" plastic pipe to tap into with a saddle tap, as directed by the public works manager. There wasn't any mention of a sewer riser. I only discovered that these last couple days.

The question I have, is how do I connect the 4" sdr to that? Is that the village's responsisbility or mine (the sewer main is in the alley)? What would be the typical way of doing it? Are there any better options? How do I ensure that I won't get blockages or separation of solids from liquids, other than maintaining 1/4" slope per foot? With the sewer being 15' down, does a riser need to be installed in order to gracefully transition from the main to the riser/sewer?

    Wow, thanks a bunch...

    Tim

Is this a private alley or is it owned by the city and maintained by it? Back to you, Tom

    Hi Tom,

The alley is owned by the village, so far as I know. My lot doesn't go that far back. Could you run me through both scenarios?

    Thanks,

    Tim

The alley is owned by the village. I asked about who's responsibility it is to tie into the existing concrete pipe. They said it's mine.

    Please advise.

    Thanks, Tom
