2003 honda accord dx has very slow engine turnover and won't start. The battery is new and AAA checked it again today when it happened again. The problem is intermittent. Took it to Pep Boys for a starter replacement as suspected by AAA. They checked it out, let the engine cool off, etc. and could not replicate the problem, so they didn’t want to replaced the starter. Can you tell me what might be causing this problem? Bad electrical connections, a computer glitch?

If the problem is the starter motor doesn't crank the engine fast enough:

. Remove and fully charge the battery. Even new batteries should be fully charged, prior to installation.

. Clean battery terminals and cable connections, including the main ground, where it attaches to the frame, and the starter motor connections.

. Examine the condition of the cable going from the positive battery terminal to the starter for hidden corrosion and breaks.

If the problem persists, it may be when the starter motor becomes heat soaked (electrical resistance). Since the starter motor grounds through the mounting bolts, remove the bolts and clean the threads on a wire wheel.
