Why do I lose water pressure after a while of running the water? My cut in/ cut off is set at 40/60 and my pump water will run for a lite bit then the gauge and water drop to zero. After turning off water it will build back up really slow at first then spike about ten psi or so. I had to change the pressure switch, the old one fell apart on one of the contacts.

1. Is your pump above ground or in the well?>
2. When the pressure drops to zero, is the pump still running?
3. If the pump is still running, then you are looking at some issues with the pump or a well that runs dry after heavy usage.

its not real heavy usage though. That's what kind of has me stumped.

Yes it above ground. And yes the pump is still running when it is at zero. You can see the gauge trying to climb. I am fearful of a dry well. Lol

You might be right. How many pipes go into the well?

I am assuming the pump is holding prime OK. Correct?

I am not sure what you mean. I am not sure how deep it is. I do know it is an older well. I have no underground sprinkling. As for it holding prime, I have not had to go under the house to reprime it at all. I was told though it is unlikely I am running UBS well dry if nobody else in the neighborhood is having a prob. Is it possible I could be sucking air from somewhere? Would it be symptoms of that?

Well I don't know what a UBS is,(something to do with banking ) but I agree with orrinh.
Sure sounds like you're pulling the water table lower then the well point. I would get a well company in to check your system. Good luck, Tom

just a little re-cap on my water problem. It was a plugged point. The top of the well pipe stands about 18" above ground or so. After changing the bladder tank I had the same problem. So as a last ditch effort (before calling in the pros). I smacked the top of my well pipe a few times with a sledge hammer ( no I didn't go crazy on it either). I had one son run the tub faucet and watch while the other watched the gauge under the house. We got some rust colored water for a min and never lost pressure again. Everything works great now. Hopefully this info will help others in the future. I know I prob just got lucky and I also know this is not a permanent fix but it will buy me some time till I have a new well installed. Thanks to all who had advice and replied.
