Begins with family living in Paris in early 60's (?). One daughter, adopted little boy, father is a novelist, mother french. Dad moves them to USA to deep south, water front, huge house, so he can write and kids may grow up better. Girl is a rebel. Mom dies in end. Son finds bio mom.
