When powering on my compaq presario 5000 tower I get a black screen with one of these - flashing up left hand corner and on the bottom it just says F10 setup or F12 network boot setup but won't do anything else what do I do?

Check f10 and make sure the BIOS is loading as expected and "seeing" your hardware.
