j9 and others, I was wondreing if any of you have any ideas about finding a doctor that treats chronic pain. Does anyone have any advice for me on what I should be looking for? j9 the only hemotoligist here treat cancer patients, and I would need a refferal to see them. So I'm writing this to get any advice I can on what to ask for, when searching for a new doctor to treat my pain. Thank again everyone.. =) LOVE ROLL
Depends on what area of the country you live but you should be able to look in the yellow pages and find a doc who specializes in pain treatment. I am in the Northeast and we have several excellent doctors in that area.Quote:

As to what to look for. Look for a provider who will look at the whole picture, not just one quick to hand you a prescription for a narcotic. Management of chronic pain can be difficult and often encorporates life style modifications, improving coping skills, medications (Narcotic and non narcotic) as well as other therapies (massage, acupuncture, physical therapy etc.) Don't be offend if part of the evaluation asks about symptoms of depression. Depression is often under treated in the management of chronic pain.
