When I need remolding or repairs on my house I don't use a company or a contractor. I ask A friend, relative or I ask someone I know if they know anybody that could do the project. Some one who does side jobs. I say to the person something like this, I have say 3 different things I need done what will you charge me so we agree on the amount of money I will pay for the work. People say get everything in writing. My question is this, I want to write the agreement or contract myself. I want it to be legal so if they don't do what I tell them to do the way I want it done it will hold up in court. What is everything I need to write in the contract and what is the format I use? I also would like to know what this type of contract/agreement is legally called by law, also is there a website for for contract law that will show me how to write this? But first I need to know the legal name for this type of contract/agreement.

You can probably find a contractor contract sample online if you search. But you should keep it simple.

This is an agreement between <insert name> as contractor and <insert your name> as homeowner.

Homeowner agrees to pay contractor <insert amount> For the following work:
<list work to be performed>

Work to commence <insert date> and be completed on or about <insert date>.

Payment will be made as follows: <insert payment schedule>

That should be sufficient to show there was work agreed to be performed and what the work would cost. Don't be surprised, though, if friends or relatives refuse to sign such a contract.

You can call it anything you want to call it. Call it "Contract"; or, if you want to be a bit more descriptive, "Construction Contract".
